Working with text
Regardless of the length of the Lab—whether a workshop or a retreat—we ask all participants to come prepared with a selection of text to work with. The text may be of your choosing: a monologue or scene from a play or film, or an excerpt from a book that resonates with you. We simply ask that you commit the text to memory. If you are working with a scene, please bring an additional copy for each additional role.
As noted on our Preparing for a Lab page, you are welcome to work in the language of your choice; however, it is helpful for the instructor if you can also provide an English translation for contextual understanding.
Below are some of our favorite contemporary and classical selections from stage, television, and film.
